Artist’s Statement

As  ‘Witness to the Unknown,’  I continue to discover connections and parallels between my own body, mind, spirit and elements of nature.  I believe that these elemental signifiers are a vital part of the human embodiment called ‘Life,’ and mirrors what is divine in us all.

The moving, dancing body, reacts, generates and stores information for recall, retrieval, or reenactment and replays by way of physical gesturing  information that is sometimes outside of spoken language.

Issues of history, memory, and agency are implicit, while the knowing body, understands, performs and reacts to itself, others and site-specific environments.

In these times of external shock, energy depletion, climate change, aging populations and migration it is necessary to find ways to continually re-interperate the role of an artist.

I bear honourable witness to this process in myself and in others.

“We are visitors on this planet. We are here for one hundred years at the very most. During that period we must try to do something good, something useful, with our lives. if you contribute to other people’s happiness, you will find the true meaning of life.”    ― Dalai Lama XIV
